Nyheden om Aviciis død blev meddelt af hans presseansvarlige Ebba Lindqvist, som blandt andet skrev:
”Han befandt sig i Muscat, Oman og blev fundet død fredag eftermiddag lokal tid. Familien er knuste, og vi beder jeg om at vise hensyn og lade dem være i fred i denne svære tid. Der kommer ikke flere udtalelser."
Avicii blev 28 år gammel.
